The Sultan Qaboos Mosque at Sohar – Oman
The Sultan Qaboos Mosque of Sohar has been designed by the order of the HM Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, covering a total area of 181,000 sq. meters and the built-up area of 28,778 sq. meters. The mosque can accommodate up to 4600 worshippers in addition to 740 female worshippers in the women’s prayer hall.
The design is inspired by the Persian & Middle Eastern Architecture, representing the Timurid style, both in the architectural and ornamental decorations.
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Sohar is a religious and also a cultural hub with a library open to the public, classrooms for Islamic studies, a multi-purpose hall for hosting cultural events and a majlis to host social events. The Grand mosque has a large garden, three main entrances, four minarets and a beautiful blue Timurid style dome, beside its other facilities.
